From the famous ‘demolition aesthetic’ of the redeveloped Queens Hotel to the reborn industrial spaces of the Boans Warehouse in East Perth, Michael has always sought out the visual essence of his site, and found fresh ways to express it without resorting to mere mimicry.
At Beachside Leighton, Michael’s seven Beachside Residences along the eastern side present a dramatic face to Curtin Avenue. The entire upper level is screened by a unique sculptural element inspired by the weathered limestone and ocean foam of the Leighton beachscape. This structure both softens the urban landscape to the east, and provides constantly changing dappled light to the interior.
